Integrating Community Health Centers in Community Response

Program Description:
Community health centers play vital roles in the everyday health and well-being of many individuals and communities. They have enormous potential to contribute to emergency preparedness, response, and recovery of these communities as well. This program will discuss what community health centers in California and Connecticut have been doing to enhance their emergency preparedness, and outline what partner agencies, such as health departments and hospitals, can do to integrate community health centers into more coordinated local emergency response systems.
Speakers:
Nora O'Brien, Senior Program Analyst, California Primary Care Association. The California Primary Care Association (CPCA) represents more than 600 not-for-profit community clinics and health centers in California who provide comprehensive, quality health care services to primarily low-income, uninsured and underserved Californians.
Jane Hylan, MPH, CHES, Director of School Based Health Services
Community Health Center, Inc. Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC) is one of the oldest and largest community federally qualified health centers in the United States.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants will be able to:
- List potential roles for community health centers in emergencies affecting their community.
- List actions health departments can take to support the integration of community health centers into local preparedness systems.
- Describe actions community health centers can take internally and in partnership with others to be ready for a wide range of emergencies.
