As a result of this educational activity, I have increased and enhanced my knowledge and competence on: *
“Annually, an estimated 1.7 million people nationwide sustain a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head often the result of a motor vehicle accident or fall. TBIs can range in severity from mild to severe producing an array of physical, psychological and cognitive symptoms. Although anyone is susceptible to sustaining a TBI, incidence rates are higher among young children (0 to4 years old), adolescents (15 to 19 year olds) and adults 65 and over. In New York State hospitals report over 400 TBI cases each day, primarily among children and adults. Results of a comprehensive needs and resources assessment among individuals with TBI, their families and service providers, revealed the need for enhanced TBI training opportunities across professional disciplines to increase correct diagnosis of TBI and its response. Therefore, this program will focus on the incidence of mild brain injury nationally and in New York State, as well as the populations most impacted by such injuries. The program will discuss the signs and symptoms of mild brain injury, which are often subtle and may not surface until hours, days, weeks, or even months after the initial injury.”
